There's a lot goin on around in the personal life here and it has shamefully taken me away from my blog thoughts. These moments of chit chat about the fun stuff are usually  renewed by my friends and acquaintences telling me about good shows or by me enjoying a good show or place and wanting to share it with my friends. I have not had as much of that. I have been interrupted by the damn realities that reach up and grab me and sometimes do not let go without some violent shaking or something equally or more dramatic happening to un-funk me.  There have been multiple bad funk moments including workquakes and marriageshakes. It has been unfortunate. That happens.

   To be honest I did have a good Wednesday night this week. I should say here again that Wednesday is my night to go exploring on this island for live music. I know it is not a great night to be exploring but I have found places and people.

    One place, that I have mentioned often, is Schraders in Lindenhurst. It is now called Lefties. Last Wednesday night there was not only a nice crowd but there were a few good singers. It is an open jam for the most part. There are often singers and guitar players in multiples. This time there was a female singer with a guitar for company and they did some clever and not boring original stuff. If they come back and do that again I will have a name for you. If not it is still worth checking out. The guitar blues thing is skillful. I enjoy the rock/blues numbers...and there are many by the regulars, Arthur, Ray and some other stringpickers.

    I would like to mention some Nassau news. I don't go to Nassau often during the week but I went and heard some really(really) nice music in Baldwin one recent Sunday night. There is a place caled Oasis Cafe on the north side of the tracks(Baldwin train Ste.) and it is a great group of musicians. Singers, guitar players, horn, drums...all that good stuff. They welcome new players too but I would think one needs to have some considerable chops to say yeah to that offer.

    I heard about a place in Rockville Center on Wednesday nights called Reflections that also really jams. I may be checking that one out this week. Anyone in?
