Welcome to my blog!
This weblog is an online journal. If there
is a "mission" it is to generate interest in the local music scene. I attempt to do that by attending events and talking
about my experiences in occasional posts.. I do not intend to offer criticism .. I am not a musician. I do highlight
those artists that put on a bigger and/or better show and the artists that "move me" more but even those less polished are
offering something to Long Island patrons and I'd like to see more patrons out there enjoying the good local talent.
You will find a log of my few weekly experiences. My "angle"
may be different in some ways, hopefully. I sometimes see things differently. I hope my perceptions offer some
insight on occasion and some humor.
I expect that this conversation will reveal a life that appreciates
blues. I see "blues" as musical-artistic expressions of human conditions.
I also like to provide links to other things on the web that I
find interesting. I will be commenting on the places I go to hear music and the folks I meet. I will be commenting
on the things I see and hear on Long Island and elsewhere. As much as I hate politics I may find it hard to resist commenting
on that too.
This is a personal, creative endeavor so
if there are some mistakes, well, sorry... it's free entertainment. I consider myself something of an impressionist as
it pertains to style. I am human and sometimes speak /write before I think. I can get into
trouble with these extroverted tendencies but thats why this is...what it is... a journal. I hope you find
some useful information or something entertaining on occasion....thanks for being here!!!!
Keep scrolling down for more posts and the Calendar. There is a menu of other pages as well.
Not talking the music blues here...The wife had a loss in the family and it is a sad thing to lose a family
member.
We are here for a short time. Love everyone you can get your hands on...or find a way not to hate them...at
the very least. They, and you, will all be somewhere very "else" and it begs us to experience all there is here...and now.
As it relates to me currently and generally my interest in music I wrote an essay on pain...(Essay
page). It may be interesting for anyone visiting as a discussion piece. For me it was a way to handle difficult things.
Some of you may know that I have been looking for some nice graphics to adorn my site. Well last night at
the big shew I ran into a Mr. Steve Sandick, an acquaintance, who happens to be a photographer in the music
industry. He was there shooting the event for the venue and we had a chat about my desire to have some nice pix here on Billfoolery.com.
Steve is one helluva nice guy and offered to let me use some of his pix here for our enjoyment. There is a link to Tunesville.net on the Miscellaneous Links page. Check it out. There are
galleries of amazing photographs as well as music news.
Thanks Steve. Hope to see you out and about again soon.
First of all I have to mention the show I saw last night(Thursday night) at Patchogue
Theatre for the Performing Arts. Giovanni Van Essen did a performance with some amazing artists to promote her new CD coming
out "soon". Gio is a soulful jazz/funk/original singer and her upcoming CD is almost entirely original stuff including
a "hit-to be" Taxi which she and company performed magically last night. With Gio last
night was Shenole Lattimer on sax, Glenn (poppa G)Palermo on bass, Nick Russo on guitar, Henning on drums and a nice
keyboard player who's name escaped me. The group played two sets of some eclectic tunes, mostly original,
like the cd. I'll keep ya'll posted in the upcoming release of Gio's cd. There is a link to her site here on Billfoolery.com
My search for good live stuff came up a winner today. Ya'll are in for a good June...not to mention
the Blues Festival in Riverhead on the weekend of July 8 & 9.
I visited the Long Island Blues site (see visitors links page) and came up with some great stuff
for the next few months. Starting tonight with a favorite guitar player Donnie Celenza who is at Chesterfields with
Mike Neville. There is also a duo of blues artists at Full Martini in Islip tonight. T-Bone and Frannie Mae are listed for
an old local favorite place. Full Martini is on Rte. 111 just north of Union Blvd and the RR trax. There is also a place in
Amityville called Giacomo's that has a C&B Blues Review tonight. I wish I could be in many places at once to check
all these things out.
As for tomorrow there is Kerry Kearney at Chesterfields. That is a favorite place
and player and I really hope to be able to get there. I also saw that there is a blues group (Fourteen Feet) at Blue Parrot.
Somone please let me know how that one is. I like the place and want to hear the band..
For any Little Buster fans there is tribute to the late blues man at the High Note in Westbury. 170
Post Ave. That is on June 21. There is an amazing roster of local blues players who are playing. This will be a good
show in tribute to a real blues artist.
As usual I love to hear from you all about upcoming performances and reviews of those you have seen so
please let me know what you find out. Thanks for coming.
Hello Long Island music fans...and friends who just come to kill some time. Thank you all by the way. I
know sometimes it is boring to come here snd see that there's no news and no new things to see or hear. (There is always the
"suggested links" page for searching for gigs...so it will never be a total waste to come here...okay??)
I often get distracted during the week with well... work, life, kids, relationships, bills, sleep,
lack there-of and sometimes just a mind full of crap.. Why is life so complicated and expensive and challenging? Can anyone
answer that? Please feel free.
Back to the business of enjoyment. I spent my Wednesday night at Lefty's and the music was so very
good. Arthur on guitar never disappoints and RayRay is singing Hendrix now...and not doing a bad job! No one sings Hendrix...at
least not with someone who can play it as good as Arty does on guitar. Hey guys...can I get some last names?
People...that is a good jam on Wednesday nights. I brought a pal who is visiting from the west and he was equally impressed
with the quality of that jam.
Anyway, for tonight I found Reckoning at Da Funky Phish. I almost always mention that place even though
I don't get there as often as I used to. Craig always gets good stuff. I'm still working on Saturday night shows
but I was invited to go to Rare Olive...somewhere near Huntington...and I may go there with some new friends for a few drinks.
I'll be looking for something else to go to though. I may try Chesterfields. They always (always) have good stuff on weekends.
I have to mention a gig coming up on Thursday, June 8.. My very good friend Giovanni
Van Essen is performing at the Patchogue Theater for thePerforming Arts with
another friend on sax, Shenole Lattimer. Giovanni can be found on my site on local artists page. She is a beautiful
jazz/funk singer and on her way up with a cd coming and some local shows. There is now a link to that theater so check that
out.
Come on back for more news and thanks again for coming...I'll be trying to add more content soon of some
different sorts. Feel free to send me info on entertainment and local arts.
I'll make changes to this site on a regular basis, sharing news, views, experiences, photos...whatever occurs to me.
Check back often!
